Specification
The ASTM F593 specification covers the various requirements for stainless steel studs, hex bolts, and hex cap screws. These requirements include dimensions, markings, mechanical, and chemical properties.
This specification is for stainless steel fasteners used in industrial or commercial industries. The F593 specification also specializes in high-temperature and corrosive environments.
Alloy groups
There are 7 alloy groups covered under the ASTM F593 specification. Each of these groups has its own requirements and are separated based on their chemical makeup and mechanical properties. See the grade page for a more detailed explanation.
| Alloy Group | Alloy Designation | Alloy Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 303, 304, 304L, 305, 384, XM1, 18-9LW, 302HQ, 303Se | Austenitic |
| 2 | 316, 316L | Austenitic |
| 3 | 321, 347 | Austenitic |
| 4 | 430, 430F | Ferritic |
| 5 | 410, 416, 416Se | Martensitic |
| 6 | 431 | Martensitic |
| 7 | 630 (17-4) | Precipitation Hardening |
| *The selection of an alloy within each group is at the discretion of the manufacturer unless the purchaser requests a specific alloy. | ||
Conditions
Each alloy group has anywhere from two to nine conditions. Each condition has its own dimensional, strength, and marking requirements.
Configurations
The F593 specification allows for studs, hex bolts, and hex cap screws. Click here for a more detailed explanation.
Product markings
As stated earlier, each condition that is within each alloy group has its own marking requirements.
Dimensional specifications
Each of the seven alloy groups and each of the conditions within the alloy groups has their own dimensional requirements. These requirements tend to range from ¼” to 1-1/2” in diameter. There are no length requirements.
